the same as the negroes in america they are a poor simple people and their wants are few. But they must certainly have good grit for to see a gang of boys and men start out on a ten or 20 days trip each with a box trunk or keg or can of something that weighs from 65 to 75 lbs on his head or shoulder I feel for them but they are used to it & know no better. They do not like to work in the greater part of this country, but they will carry those loads up and down the very highest and rough-est mountains over rocks and gullies through rivers &c and rarely ever complain and to the most of them a small piece of cut calico, say 6 yards will satisfy them to make the journey and carry the burden. After we came out of the store we had some tea and came back to Londe and Morrison would not rest until he got Mr. Logerin to go up to Matadi with him. He came beck feeling better but did not accomplish any more than he did the yester-day. Tomorrow is communion day at Londe. I think there will be only 4 white men and a few blacks to partake of the bread and wine, but I hope it will do us all good. You know we are told that where 2 or 3 are gathered to-gether in the Lord's name, he will be in their midst. Pray for us all and May God's blessing rest upon all God's people through out the world. Amen.

The a.m. is cool and pleasant a little cloudy just enough to keep "Old Sol" from shining down on us poor mortals with all his power. It is quite warm and sultry, although we call it pleasant. Am exceedingly well, thanks to our kind Heavenly Father. Just before break-fast the colored man Mr. Lo ~ a member of B.M.S.. who is taking care of the place at Underhill came up to Londe in a great deal of trouble. On saturday night while he and his boys were in the kitchen, some distance from his sleeping room, some one come & took all his bedding and also a box of Magis Laubru outfit, the latter belonging to the mission. He had to sleep in a chair all night. He ate breakfast with us, and after breakfast there came a man along and when he saw the said Lo he ran off and some one caught him and brought him back but they could not find out enough to know whether to believe him or not so he was kept in custody all day nearly and I do not know what became of him.
