the Portugese Post in Thursday night and so they will not leave until Friday. They went over to Kinshasa to Mr. Gordon's tonight in a small boat - the men paddling - the will stay all night. The mail came in & we will get letters tomorrow. Thursday Sept. 7 - 99 Nothing of interest except that I get the papers ready for MacGregor to go off as soon as he gets his mail. The Ville d'Anvers came in - I went down to the beach expecting to get some mats but they were not on board. Friday Sept. 8 - 99 Yes our letters came early - later in the day the papers came - about 1:30 Mac went away. I took my wheel on board & went to Kinshasa. I let him have a little cart I had. I came back just at dark on my wheel one of my boys ran behind me all the way & kept up with me - Quite a nice road to Kinshasa we had a letter from Mother Wright and one from sis Flo. Good night. Saturday Sept. 9 - 99 This a.m. I went to S.A.P.V. to see about getting some beads for Luebo - but the man was away. I then went to the State, saw the Commissaire about getting some loads on the next steamer. I have the promise of 25. I also have the promise, if possible, of sending the boiler of Pioneer up on a state boat if it is possible for them to carry it. Came home - boys had the yard swept up & ready for dinner. After dinner I sent them for Quanga but only got ½ enough I then gave them their weekly rations - about 5 o'clock I again went to see the man to buy some beads - but he was not there I saw him however, but he was not at a place to talk business. So I said nothing about it - will call on him Monday D.V.. Sunday Sept. 10 - 1899 Nkaku & I had the service this a.m. as Mr. Wooling is still away. I had the Eng. service this p.m. & there was a better congregation than on last Sunday. Sophie led the singing. I had a call from one of the capts. of the State, Cap. Lindstrom whom I crossed the ocean with. I forgot to mention that on Thursday night I went up to the depot & found 3 men without a place to sleep so I furnished them a house, and now they are at the station waiting for a boat - one is a Mr. Harmass formerly of Luebo, the other a M. Debaker. Good night all well-
