so I made an attempt - petted the mule a little & led it around some & then started up the wide plank to the boat - the mule followed nicely & I was congratulated-the boat would not leave until 2 o'clock so I did not go. Came back home &. Sophie had a big S.S. Mr. Woolings preached this a.m. I in p.m. not very large congregations - we have great times putting our pollies to bed every night. Lilla has laid two egg & we hope to have some young parrots some day all being well - good night - S & S Had the boys getting sticks, building fence &c. Nothing of interest happened. Sophie began writing some letters. She wrote a nice little story which she will send to the Christian Observer at Louisville Ky. Our church paper you know. Sophie had her old washer-woman to do her washing today-this woman did our washing at Tumba. She is the wife of our head man. She washed very nicely, and did the starching herself so Sophie had nothing to do at all. About the same routine of business. Mrs. Gordon was reported not well, so Sophie offered to over to Kinshasa & help her with the baby-said she was better, so she did not go. Work about the same as usual. Still building fence - not yet finished - work in other respects about the same. Sohpie's school is good, and our little prayer meeting every night seems to be much enjoyed by the boys. I was greeted by my Dear wife this morning with smiles as she presented herself dressed in a green frock-brought my chapeau to me trimmed in green. I looked astonished & she merely remarked "this is Mar. 17, arn't you going to join in the parade"? We had a good time. About 10 o'clock a.m. we had a notice from the Depot
