Leo. Sunday Feb. 12 - 99 Mr. Wooling preached this a.m. & Mr. Vass in the p.m. Nothing of importance happened. Mr. Malet one of the men with Woolings has fever. Major Polkney went to the Ch. he is the British Consul. Monday Feb. 13 - 99 This afternoon the new boat, very large - called Hainout left - She was loaded with passengers. Major Porkney the British Consul was one among them. Mr. Malet got left. After the departure of the boat I went to the Commissaire & got a ticket for Vass - it said the boat would leave on 15ᵗʰ. Our goods are not yet on board so guess she will not go then. Tuesday 14 - 1899 Today a notice came around saying that the boat would leave on 16 - so everything was made ready. I went to Kinshasa to get 150 loads ready for "Autoinelle" Dutch House boat, & just as I got the last checked here comes & note from Sophie calling me home. I came & found her with fever the 1ˢᵗ & only one since she had the one during her first month in Congo. I went to work right away, but there was not much to do for she & Mr. Vass had done all that was necessary - piled on the blankets & put on the hot water bottles - so it was not long before she got into a sweat & her temp began to go down. Good night. Wednesday Feb. 15 - 1899 Up very early - had breakfast & got Vass & his belongings down to the boat - 5 passengers on board. I sent Nkaku to Kinshasa with Vass to see the custom officer all was well. This a.m. the fever was gone from Sophie & she immediately began to mend. The Dutch boat will not go until Monday next. Good night. We are alone again Thursday Feb. 16 - 99 I got up about 5 o'clock this a.m. & went to Kinshasa on my bike - to see Mr. Greshoff off, for he left this a.m. for Matadi - on his way to Europe where he will remain about 5 months. He wrote me a letter last night saying that he would leave today - so I went over to see him. I rec'd from the capt. of boat my manifesto, stopped at Gordon's a few minutes saw Mr. Howell who came down on the peace B.M.S. and will stay until Wednesday next. I came home and all's well. good night.
