Dec. 25 Sophie not well yet but up most of the time - feeling quite badly. mention that last night we gave a shirt, cap, knife & spoon to each boy on the place the shirts sophie made the other things she didn't. The boys were highly pleased - this a.m. they were showing off their new coats. Mr. Wooding had the a.m. service & I had the p.m. service. Not big congregations, but the Congo boys more than the Coast men a very quiet day as the Belgians do not make so much of Xmas. Mr. Woolings was with us for Dinner & supper Good night a big feast for the boys tomorrow Dec. 26 - 1898 - Monday A great day - Mr. Woolings killed 2 goats - & I killed a small pig. Mrs. Crowley had our cook, Kiasia fry a lot of doughnuts - the boys cooked their meat & rice & I furnished the Quanga. Mr. W. the rice Both Mr. W. & I waited on the table. Dr. Snyder took some snap shots of us while we were at work. The dinner took place about 1 oclock just after we had our own dinner Mr. Woolings ate with us. A quiet time yet a pleasant one today. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon gave their boy a dinner also at Kinshasa. Nothing new afloat. Good night. Tuesday Dec. 27 - 1898 I had a telegram from Bros Vass - he has arrived at Boma - will be a Matadi Friday D.V. & will probably be with us on Tuesday next, the 2nd of Jan. 1899. Nothing new - the usual work about - Mr. Morrey still having a continuous fever. Hope he will soon recover - good night Thursday Dec. 29 - 1898 today we looked forward to the receiving of some letters & papers - as we heard the mails would be in - Dr. S. & I went down to meet the train only 2 passengers. I sent over about 8 o'clock p.m. & the P.M. sent our letters we had one from Flora written Nov. 26 - just a month. Flora rarely ever fails us - News of our box from Mr. Whyte & a nice personal letter from him to both of us. Good night. Friday Dec. 30 - 1898 All the a.m. we looked for some papers, so in the p.m. I had to go to the P.O. but they had not completed the distribution so I did not get them - a little later the P.M. sent them over - the missionary & other papers for Dr. Snyder & Observer for us. I read until 11 o'clock. Sophie having glanced over the whole by nine - & retired
