Kinshasa Tuesday Aug. 16 - 1898 brought some more goods from ch. de fer (R.R.( bought 100 rods worth of guanga (chop for the boys) from Mr. Howell --capt. of boat - In the p.m. we all went to Ndolo to-have Mrs. Clark's & Howell's baggage weighted - they are-going home - they will leave early tomorrow a.m. Mr.-Gordon & I went up with them - we came back in a canoe --the others slept on board Wednesday Aug. 17 - 1898 I have a little cart that I made to carry loads on & so I lent it to Mr. d'Angremond, I have been trying to arrange a little, but so far have made no progress. We are still boarding with Mrs. Gordon. Thursday Aug. 18 - 1898 Did some little straightening around this a.m. In p.m. I walked up to Ndolo, a distance of 4 miles I stopped & visited on the way - the train came in & the vice gov. &-secretary came. I walked back & got in a little after dark. After supper I went over to the Dutch House & had a little visit with the agents. Friday Aug. 19 - 1898 Got the Dutch House mule & rode to Dr. Sim's place but found him ready to come to Mr. Gordon's - I came back-just as they were eating dinner - a little more work &-writing. Saturday Aug. 20 - 1898 an attempt to build a kitchen but will wait until Monday --settled some a/c with Dr. Sims & gave him a bill of exchange in settlement of same --all well - good-night - we hope to begin house keeping-next week. preparations for Sabbath - we had a better-from Lille - good-night Sunday Aug. 21 - 1898 Service by Mr. Gordon. Dr. Sims preached a sermon to the children. He offered prayer -- walked about the house with his eyes open buttoned & unbuttoned his coat --walked to the door & shut it - kicked the dog out &. I-had heard many things about him, but this time happened to see. No collection today - only taken twice amonth.-Mr. Clark & Mr. Howell still here. Had prayers tonight. Dr. Sims will go off tomorrow a.m. - Good night.
