Kinshasa wife of A.B.M.U. who are on the steamboat - Henry Reed --came in about 8 o'clock, for Mrs. banks & Miss Clark. They went to Brazzonville for loads for Dutch House - & bade us all good bye. In the p.m. as I was just getting ready to go to Leopoldville to see Dr. Sims, the R.R. agt came in & told me he had a wagon for me so my goods had come at last. Mr. Gordon had a big caravan in & I took these men & went over and unloaded the wagon & had most of the goods carried to my house. I had one of the boys sleep with them. I have no house to put them so had to leave them out doors. Mr. Gordon had a wagon in & I helped him to unload. Friday Aug. 12 - 1898 Had a letter from Dr. Sims stating that he could not do our work longer. I was busy & paid no attention. All went well. Saturday Aug. 13 - 1898 Loads still unfinished - some at R.R. which will have to remain until Monday. While we were eating dinner the steamer of B.M.S. came in. Mr. & Mrs. Howell Mr. & Mrs. Clark, & Miss de Hoiles. Mrs. Clark & Mrs. Howell are going home - their husbands will remain - & after a rest in England for some months will come back & join their husbands. Mrs. Clark has charge of a little baby Doris Grace Scrivens, whose mother died some months ago - she will take the little one to England. Mrs. Gordon has a house full - 10 persons to eat at each meal. Sunday Aug. 14 - 1898 Congo service this a.m. by Mr. Gordon. A Congo service this p.m. for another class of people who do not under-stand the Bos Congo language - the boys who are from up river & on the boat, during the same hour sunday school for the others. We have no English service here - today I sold a bible -- all well we will all go to Leopoldville tomorrow on the steamer a treat for Sophie - good night Monday Aug. 15 - 1898 Today I had 150 loads carried up from the beach & placed at the back of my house. I have no store-house at present Steamer good-will -- a boat of B.M.S. took us over to Leopoldville. Dr. Sim's place we enjoyed the trip - a little excursion. Mrs. Gordon, Miss Dr. Fleming Mrs. Clark & Howell - Mssrs. Howell, Clark, Gordon, Kiehl, & myself - Came back about 4 o'clock p.m. - gave the carriers a bag of salt for their pay.
