Friday June 24 - 1898 Nothing of importance today except all well & I pup up a long flag pole and expect to fly the Congo flag on the days when the people are here - fire-works galore - but the nights will be light - a disadvantage. Saturday June 25 - 1898 Again we are making preparations for Sunday - I am to get a flag from the State today. R.R. Co. are hustling - all will be ready for the inauguration. Good night & all well. God bless & care for all. S & S Sunday June 26 - 1898 Mr. Morgan preached in the morning - Mr. Pinnock p.m. & Mr. Morgan at night at our house. Ch. de fer are pro-gressing rapidly with buildings - working day & night. Monday June 27 - 1898 Great preparations for next Sunday. July 3. the inaugura-tion is supposed to take place. In the next few days that followed we decorated our houses, put up flag staffs raised flags. Im sorry we have no American flag. I am going to ask Sophie to make one that will do until some one will be kind enought to send one N.B. compressed above Sunday July 3 - 1898 It was my turn to preach this a.m. but Mr. Wooding had just been examined in Congo Language & Mr. Cameron one of the examining board desired to hear him preach, so he took my place - we also had communion service - about 20 native christians communed with us. In p.m. I preached to the largest congregation we have ever had. At night, Mr. Morgan read a sermon at our house. We have all prayed that the excursionists might not come here on Sunday and the Lord has heard our prayers for they did not come, they will come tomorrow. Monday July 4 - 1898 A most glorious 4th. Today our friends at home are flying flags, have their houses decorated, shooting big guns &c, in honor of their independence. We have our houses & sur-roundings decorated with palms & evergreens - we are
