I have accepted and will join in their feasts and accompany them to Stanley Pool. D.V. I found Mr. Vernij sick yesterday, with fever & he had to stay in bed all day. I gave him the never failing remedy - a purge and plenty of quinine - and of course I looked for the expected results - all which were good but he would not stay in the house as directed, but disobeyed orders, & the consequence he had fever today. I bade him stay indoors & poured quinine down him and this p.m. he is better. No other experience. This a.m. I went to see my patient very early, and found him clear of fever, so I gave him another big dose of quinine, & he got up & is alright now. I found a letter from Mr. Greshoff chief manager of the N.A.H.V. trading Co. offering me a piece of ground to build a house on & only charge me rental of one Dollar per annum for a term of five years, then he proposed to buy the house - so you see I am in favor with him - these are the people whom I helped so much in sickness - and with whom I boarded one year. But yesterday I had a great experience. In the p.m. I shaved off my beard and not one of the native boys on the station knew or recognized me. I had a great time. I went out the back door & came around to the front & rapped the boy came to the door - I asked where Mr. Crowly was & he looked all over the place but could not find him - they all thought I was a new man who came in - there was such a complete transformation - a great time.
