Thursday Feb. 3 - 1898 This morning before we arose, there was a very hard rain, in fact it rained hard for several hours, beginning about 3 or 4 o'clock, when it rains exceedingly hard and acompanied with wind it drives the rain through every place that the air can penetrate, so on this occasion the rain came in through the roof in several places. I went to the office to get the mail, but found that the European or American post did not come, so will have to await the next train. You see we have a train every 2ⁿᵈ day. Nothing of interest has occurred. Mr. Morgan had the English prayer meeting service tonight and we had a fairl good attendance. Friday Feb. 4 - 1898 Yesterday p.m. I found a man who needed some medicine and I gave him some. This a.m. I went to see how he was and found him at work. The medicine had the desired effect and all was well. While I am telling this a boy has come for medicine for his brother whose neck is swollen badly, so he says. I sent him for his brother in order that I might look at him. --- Here he comes. -- My, such a big swelling & very sore - reaching nearly the whole way around the neck. I put a poultice of Linseed meal on it and gave him a good purge & let him go, telling him to come again tomorrow. Mrs. Crowley, Mrs. Graham, & Mrs. Wooding are getting on nicely with the school. Mrs. C. having the oversight of penmanship & mathamatic departments. Mr. Silva came up and asked me to kill an ox for him tomorrow, as he wanted to make a trip I gladly told him I would, for that means fresh meat. Mrs. C. & I went over and spent a few minutes at Grahams after supper. Good night.
