Wednesday Jan. 26 - 1898 In the a.m. I made my round to call on my friends who were ill and found them all well. Mr. O. will not go to Mkissi tomorrow. In the afternoon it rained a very hard rain and we were glad to see it for it helps us out with the water very much. You see if it don't rain we must have our water brought from the small stream which is about 1 mile away. I finished making a table today. Mr. Morgan after a vacation of about. 2 weeks came in. Mr. Graham had the Congo service Sophie & I are reading a book together, call Titus or the two comrades to the Cross. Thursday Jan. 27 - 1898 A lovely day & Mrs. Crowley was feeling so exceedingly well & happy that she thought it a good day to entertain so accordingly Mr. & Mrs. Graham, our very dear friends were invited to dine with us at 6:30 this eve. They came and we had a lovely time. Our dinner consisted of soup, heart fresh from the ox, with nice dressing, delightful rolls, curried & uncurried prawns, ham, doughnuts & Bartletts Pears - & tea. After dinner Mr. Graham & I went out to the chapel & entertained 3 coast men in a scripture reading and prayers - songs &c & a little wholesome gospel advice. After the service we came back into the house & had some singing of our own. Friday Jan. 28 - 1898 A lovely day. I made some calls & about 11:30 o'clock, Mrs. Graham & Mrs. Crowley went down to the native market & tried to talk some to the native women, but they do not want to know anything of God's palava. A market consists of a lot of people collecting together in an open place, with whatever they have to sell or exchange. I went down and managed to get a few sweet potatoes and-a nice squash This p.m. there came up a hard wind and cold, with a little sprinkling of rain, which kept people indoors for an hour or so, and when we did go out, we had to dress up in our winter clothes. The mails came in from England, but brought no letters or papers to us from America. We expect them, however on Monday. Now I say good night.
