Thursday Jan. 6 - 1898 A hard day of it. - 30 carriers, 3 caravans, An awfully hard set to deal with. However, I got them all off with goods for Luebo - all seemed to work ok. at the last. Although I am very tired - Went to prayer meeting. Mr. Graham was the leader, a good meeting but I was awfully tired and sleepy. Mrs. Crowley had a hard time baking & cooking - her stove did not work well. We are both exceedingly well and happy. Good-night. We sent some doughnuts today to some friends who have been very kind to us. At 4 o'clock this after-noon there was a burial a state man died. Friday - Jan. 7 - 1898 Good evening. We are glad to see you. You seem well, how are we? Oh! Yes, thank you we are well - and happy both of us. Mrs. C. enjoys immensely keeping house. I, today, at odd times, made a nice table as a side table for our neatly arranged dining room. I wish you could peep in. Just as I finished it Mrs. Graham came over & then Mrs. C. & Mrs. G. went for a walk. I went down town & called on Dr. LeGras the director of Belgika - He promised to come up & see me tomorrow, after noon. After supper, Mrs. C. & I went over to Mrs. Grahams and spent a very pleasant hour. Mr. G. & I straightening up our accounts. I'll now say good night, or rather we for Mrs. C. joins me - and we are both in it. Saturday Jan. 8 - 1898 Today has been a very pleasant one nothing to mar our happiness. About noon it began to rain and we were glad to see it for we have had no rain for 2 weeks - and water is scarce. The boys had brought a good quantity and seemed to wish they had not, but it did not rain enough to do much good - that is, not much water was deposited-and we depend on the rain water here - the river is so far away. Now, as it is Sat. night, we will say good night - and thank Our Kind Father for his goodness and mercy unto us during the past week and fit and prepare our hearts for the Lord's day. We hope that our friends and loved ones at home have had the Loving Care of the tender Shepherd as we have. We are reading one of Crockets books together - The Lilac Sunbonnet. Goodnight. P.S.
