Last Thursday I left Tumba and went to Matadi via "chermir de Fer" - stayed over night at S.M.S. Londe. Friday went to Matadi early in the a.m. ate breakfast with M. Domejoy & then called on the Judge procured my certificate of matriculation called on Mijnher Berteen of Maison Hollan-daise - went to the ship - Coomassie - as the capt. said she would start for Boma at 10 o'clock - but owing to some misunderstanding with the custom officer of the state over a small piece of ivory, we were detained until 2 o'clock. Then we started and arrived at Boma at 6 p.m. I stayed that night with the I.M.A. missionaries. Mr. Cramer & wife in charge. Sat. a.m. Mr. C. and I went to see the Judge M. Gohn and made all arrangements for my marriage as soon as the ship should come in. It did not come in until today, Monday. I looked all day Sat. all day Sunday, but no come. I went to the Eng. House and called on Mr. Ross - took breakfast with him and he brought me back to the mission again ford. All that day I looked for the ship to come in but looked in vain Arose very early - anxious to see the ship arrive, and finally saw the smoke. It kept coming nearer and nearer-and at noon she arrived at the pier. You can imagine my joy on going to see my Sophie the 1st one looking for her future husband. I went on board and after a brief inter-view with Dr. Snyder & Sophie I made arrangements to be married at 5 o'clock p.m. We went to the I.M.A. and from there, in company with Mr. Cramer Mr. Roth, Misses Villas & Wilmot of said mission & Mr. Jeffreys of B.M.S. Dr. Snyder of our own mission, to the office of director of Justice who was very kind and tied the knot as nicely and as tight as possible - we returned to the mission again and Dr. Snyder performed the religious ceremony and we were happily married, Sophie and I. We stayed at I.M.A. that night and had a good nights rest. After a pleasant interview with the judge & Governor General - We boarded the ship and at 11 o'clock started up the great Congo River for Matadi, arriving near there the currant drove the ship ashore and we had to anchor at Noekie all night.
