V's call, he asked him where he was going to work or at least start some new stations, for Bro. V. had heard that he (Reid) was going to plant some new stations above Tumba. R. asked him why he wanted to know and he said "I don't want to step on your toes nor do I want you to step on mine." Bro. R. said, "Mr. V. Africa is a very large country and I think there is plenty room for us both!" I could go on and tell lots of things he did that was not right I hope he is alright since he has gone to Luebo. Now I must saw good night. In Jesus Name. Monday Feb. 15 - 1897 Arising early this a.m. I made preparations for leaving Londe, Matadi and going to Tumba. A few minutes before 6 we had some cocoa, & at 6 we were ready to start. Mr. Smite was going to Boma on a boat belonging to the Dutch House. We got to the boat just as she was leaving and got on board. We then went to the R.R. Station where I had my baggage checked and purchased my ticket got on board the train and was ready to start. Mr. Bullerkist went to Vivi. I met Bro's Clippingdale & Wescott at station & I took a little basket from Bro. C. to Mrs. Wooding. At 7 o'clock sharp the train started and went up quite a grade - as soon as we left Matadi the road began to curve - and now it winds around like a snake - to show you how straight it is, we are going east - the sun is in front of us a short distance and the sun is on our left again on the right & sometimes behind us. At 12 min. past 7 we stopped to take water - a little square tank near the track that the boiler is filled up with the Engine has no tender. At 8 o'clock we stopped about 10
