Monday Feb. 8 - 1897 Last night at retiring I took 5 grs. Quinine as I felt a little badly, and I perspired a great deal during the night. This morning I arose feeling quite well Thanks to our heavenly Father. After breakfast with Mr. Clippingdale, I went via Mr. Harvey's to P.O.. From there to R.R.magazine. I looked over some goods &c As I stood outside the door I saw Mr. Lagerin going to Londe in his boat, so I went to the ship (Albertvill) and got into his boat and went to Londe with him. After chop I wrote a short time, and read a lovely essay, written by my friend Miss Millie Burnett of Nashville, and published in the Baptist & Reflecter. I then read a Missionary paper published in the "Out Look" a family paper. Both these papers were sent me by Miss Sophie Wright of Nashville. I did some more work, purchased 2 prs. of canvas shoes with rubber soles. After supper & prayers I sat and conversed with Mr. Sjoholm until Bedtime. Now I will say good-night for the Lord has been good to me. I have not had a fever yet. Praise the Lord. Tuesday Feb. 9 - 1897 Had a good nights rest. After chop, went to Matadi, walked, saw the chief of the station who informed me that I could not send any more baggage by a passenger, unless it was wearing apparel &c. However this p.m. I am going to take my trunk & several boxes to the station and run the risk of it and send a boy with them in the morning. I went with the goods to the depot and placed ten colis (10 packages) weighing 330 kilos or 660 lbs. on the scales & had them weighed and received, paid for a ticket and rec'd it for the boy. I then went to the P.O. and posted a paper for Mr. M°K. and purchased 2 new stamps & came back to Londe. No more of importance during the day. Wednesday Feb. 10 - 1897 Arose very early this a.m. and went with boy to get him and the goods to Tumba. But there was no train — one engine had flown the track and no traffic today. I & boy returned to Londe just in time for breakfast. I went again to Matadi with Mr. Sjoholm and he agreed to take the lumber that was at Matadi for A.P.C.M. So I have that much off hands.
