The International Missionary Alliance, a fine two story building with the chureh and school room in the first story where Miss Wilmot has a class of little fellows. The upper story is fixed up for the missionaries - and there are beside Miss Wilmot, Mr. Standly and wife. We found Mr. Standly sick of fever which he has had four days. After a pleasant little visit we accepted an invitation to meet at the house and participate in a watch meeting with them. They expect about 100 or more people from what they call the coast country, who understand English very well. And we accepted and made an engagement for Morrison & Armstrong also. Now it is nine o'clock and we will repair thither to meet our missionary friends. Well, about 9 o'clock p.m. we went over to our friends & had a very pleasant visit. When the time (10:30) arrived for service Mrs. Standly announced to the congregation, mostly men and boys, that her husband was ill, but that a kind providence had brought to their rescue 4 missionaries who were on their way up country, and had just come in on the ship. She also said that we each could say a few words to them. We first had a song "Stand up for Jesus" and it was good. Then prayer then another song. Then a talk from Bro. Morrison another song - a talk from Armstrong, another song - a talk from Bro. Wescott - another song - a talk from myself. When it came my turn Mrs. S. said that she could only give me five minutes, but when I got up, I presumed on her goodness, and instead of getting thro. in 5 min. it took me ten. There were about seventy natives in all, and most. of them understood Eng. very well. When I was speaking, a cannon was fired off which reminded me that it was 12 o'clock, and I hurriedly wound up. Then we kneeled and about 1/2 doz natives offered prayers and one song was sung while on our knees Mrs. Standly wound up the prayers then we sang another song and Bro. Morrison pronounced the benediction. We then had a great time shaking hands and wishing a happy New Year. We then went up stairs and had a cup of tea and some good raisin cake and at 1:30 a.m. We went back to the ship. We had a very pressing invitation to stay the remainder of the night and sleep very late, but we deemed it best to go back to the ship. Mr. Standly was better when we left
