Tuesday Oct. 18 ~ 1898

Again worked hard all day to be ready for a truck when it
should come - did more work than was necessary, but
having to wait I kept packing - truck did not come - so
will live in hopes for tomorrow - good-night-

Wednesday Oct. 19 - 1898

Again I'm waiting for that truck but not yet come. By
the way, yesterday, I witnessed the S.5..Mfu Ntangu
slide into the water. I had been to Ndolo - & on my way
back I stopped at the custom officers place M. Borthels
and witnessed the launching. The Steamer belongs to the
Lutch trading Company - she is a big boat & soon will be
doing good work ~ on the Congo ~ Today the small boat
that rune from Brazzaville to Kinshasa, in going across,
the machinery stopped suddenly & the boat had to anchor -
after a little work all was made right & she went on -- I
had a note this a.m. that I would have a wagon at 4 p.m.
It came, but I will not load until tomorrow a.m. We have
been talking our meals with Mrs. Gordon all this week.

Leepoldville Thursday Oct. 20 - 1898 Leopoldville

Very Barly I got the Dutch House men & Mr. Gordon's & had
all the goods on the wagon by 9 o'clock. We expected the
engine along about 11 o'clock so we had lunch - it did
not come by noon so we had dinner - about 2 o'clock I
went out to the R.R. & waited after a little Sophie & Dr.
Fleming came - they waited a long time but I decided it
better to go to the house again. Finally the engine did
come & the carriage (Hammock) - se we got on the truck on
top of the lead of goods & went away - waving our hats &
handkerchiefs to those good friends whom we left behind.
We arrived at Leopoldville (Native Kintana) about 6
