down & checked & ready to move - fortunately another cara-
van came in and all my leads will be carried to the Dutch
House tomorrow D.V. all well - good night - Stephen &
Sophie. I have a boy on watch tonight -

Friday Oct. 7 - 1889

I began my work of carrying the loads this a.m. The men
& boys carried all day & only left a few loads for the
morning. They rebelled about 6 o'clock and would not
carry more for they said they were tired. In 20 minutes
they could have finished, but the Congo people never
care about finishing anything ~ I they only had one box
left they would let that remain until morning to finish.
