Friday Sept. 16 - 1898

This a.m. I went to the custom house & had the officer
sign a permit for me to send up loads - he did so. In
the p.m. I got the donkey of the Dutch Co. & rode over
to Leopoldville - & the capt. of a boat who has just come
from Kassai told me that Dr. Snyder has been very low
with Haematuria Fever - and narrowly escaped too feeble
to write. I had letters dated in August & they reported
all well. I have the promise of a lot of men from Mr.
McGregor of the steamboat pioneer, to help me unload a
car of goods for me & for Luebo frds.

Saturday Sept. 17 - 1898

I began early unloading this a.m. & was through by 9
o'clock & had the goods checked. I then put the men to
carrying & almost by the time I had finished breadfast
they had the goods there. In the afternoon I had them
stacked up. This p.m. Mr. Gordon & his boys went out
hunting, but they saw nothing. He came home. Afterwards
the boys saw a deer and killed it they shot it nearly all
to pieces - which made the meat somewhat ugly - we had

a pice of it this a.m. though we had some fresh beef -

2 lbs. 90 cts.
