cleans up her room makes the bed washes & irons the
clothes &¢ ~ & is generally useful ~- the most indus-
trious girl ive seen in congo -- we shall have a woman
to come in & do our washing & ironing regulerly after
this week & her hire will be about 10 to 20 cents per
month ~ can we afford it (7?)

Sunday Aug. 28 - 1898

Service this a.m. by Mr. Gordon - on this station they
only have one service per sunday & ses. in the p.m.

I have not taken the service yet - they have no Englisl
service & everything is new. We had a collection toda:
& all contribute liberally - the money consists of
brass rods about 6 in. long bent so that both ends
nearly meet - all well - good night

Monday Aug. 29 - 1898

This a.m. I went across the great Stanley Pool to Frend
Congo ~ Brazzarille. There I met Mr. Greshoff of NA.
H.V. had a pleasant visit with him & dined there - A
good dinner ~ lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, beef, eges
&e. At 2 o'clock pam. he sent me back to my own side -
in his little steam boat Wendalina - nothing else of
importance

Tuesday Aug. 30 - 1898

was busy all day getting ready for keeping house for
we intend doing so tomorrow. Mr. Morgan arrived from
Tumba about nine oclock tonight. Mrs. Gorgon "chopped"
him & we "slept" him. He brought us some mail - a nice
long letter from Flora & the Outlook - Oh! how glad we
are to receive home letters.

Wednesday Aug. 31 - 1898

Mr. Wooling came over - and Mrs. Morgan. Wooling &
myself went to Ndole. I got then straight with bag-
gage and all went well. I got back home at 12 ne. We
did not begin house-keeping today - we will take
breakfast with Mrs. Gordon in the aw. & then we hope

to have dinner at home. Mr. Gordon is ill from a bad
tooth. nothing else new.

Thursday Sept 18* 1898

We ate breakfast with Gordons, but ate dinner at home
We didn't have much, but didn't starve - Sophie is a
good caterer - supper also by our own sweet selves -
