Wednesday Dee. 29 - 1897

All well this day Praise the Lord. was agreeably sur-~
prised with a caravan this aem., which occupied most of
my attention during the 18t $ day. In p.m. I was busy
writing some important letters and posting and Mrs.
Crowley was giving the boys some lessons in the rudiments
of English. Again good~night.

Thursday Dec. 30 = 1897

All well today ~ attended to getting some stove-pipe
fixed. Came back and set the sewing-machine in order =
Pem., fixed some sticks for the rolls of scripture — and
put down carpet. Our dining room now looks beautifully.

I had the prayer meeting service tonight in the new chape]

this pom. we all played a game of cricket - g00d exercise
on a cool day ~ both well ~ good night.

Friday, Dee. 31 - 1897

Mrs. C. & I are both well & happy. This morning after
some little preliminaries I began to make a center table
and suceded remarkably well. The chief manager of the
machine shops of the Ry. made 2 elboes to fit my stove
pipe and I fixed up the stove and now we are ready for
cooking. We had a good day and tonight we are to have a
watch service. Mr. Morgan is to be the preacher. I had
a letter from Mr. Sheppard today and also a card from
Verner. They report all well at Luebo.

Saturday January st 1898

Last night we had a good meeting and opened up the new
year in a good way. Before we got up this a.m. we were
greeted with cards wishing us a happy New Year. Mr. Wood«
ing sent us some photographs. After breakfast Mrs. C.
stole a march on Mrs. Graham and stuffed and baked two
nice pigeons = and also made a dish of scolloped potatoes
and we had a grand New Years dinner while our friends in
America had their fine turkeys ~ we had some nice pigeons
and enjoyed them very much. After dinner I gave the toys
their fish candles & soap and as it is the 18t Saturday
in the month I gave them their Sunday cloth. You see it
is the custom to give the boys that work on the station a
small piece of cloth once each month as an incentive to
keep clean. JI then went to pay a little visit to some
friends and one of them gave me a nice sheep and little
