Wednesday Nov. 18 = 96

Went with Tom M°C as far as Castle Donovan where he
attended school. C.D..an old castle which Cromwell
shot the top off with a cannon ball from Drimoleague
distance about 3 miles. I then went into the school
house and visited a short time. Almost took the teach-
er's breath. Finally he recovered and we got into a
conversation. He had the boys of the parrish while

in the other end a Mistress had the girls. Their sal-
aries cach 200 pounds per year. I then walked across
the country about 3 miles farther East to Pookeid, the
place where my grandfather Daniel Kline lived and saw
the old house where I was born ~ the old house now is
in ruins and is called like all other deserted old
houses (colough) Dennis Kline a brother to the Mrs.
M°Carthy I staid with last night and also a cousin on
my mother's side lives on my grandfather's place. He
is a well to-do farmer and has two nice farms. No one
at home but one girl Hannah Kline (daughter) a beauti-+
ful light haired girl with beautiful complexion bright
rosy cheeks ~ nice even snow-white teeth and two pretty
red lips. 1 took her to walk with me down'to the old
house where I was born and told her my little story

and Kissed her on the spot (of course she is my cousin).
We then went back to the house and put on a nice clean
frock and she walked east with me about a mile farther
where her father and mother were on the other farm.
After staying there awhile Mr. Kline and myself walked
back to his home place. And then we had a regular old
Irish dinner of spuds and meat & a big bowl of nice
sweet milk. These are high-toned people and wealthy
but they (as others) have their dung pile in front of
the door. After supper Hannah, Cou and myself went

up to a brother of this man Joe Kline and a most
thorough Irishman he is comical and witty. After
visiting 1/2 an hour and leaving a real good impression
